Mangalore: “Out of the 50% universities that provide higher education in India Manipal University holds an important place in imparting higher education”, said Dr K Kasturirangan, Director, National Institute of Advanced Studies Bangalore while addressing the convocation of Manipal University 2008.
Later Dr HS Ballal gave a brief overview of the recent achievements of Manipal University and how the campus has been technologically made fit to make up for the demands of every student and to compete with other institutions at international level. “Manipal University stands as a prominent institution in South-Asia in the field of higher education”, said Dr Ballal.
Dr Kasturirangan distributed the gold medals and certificates to all the graduate and post graduate students who had successfully completed their course. 11 doctorates and 54 graduate certificates were awarded to the KMC Manipal students, 10 certificates to the BSC nursing graduates, one certificate to the Manipal pharmaceutical sciences, one PHD certificate to Manipal institute of management and 76 graduation certificates to KMC Mangalore. After the awards, the awardees took the oath to remain sincere to their knowledge and help and deliver their knowledge to the society in every possible way.
Dr MV Kamath, Dr Pushpakini director of student affairs Manipal, Dr GK Prabhu Registrar Manipal University, the directors of all the constituent colleges of Manipal, the academic senators and the Board of controller of examinations were all present on the occasion. Dr Ramdas M Pai the chancellor of Manipal University declared the opening and closing of the convocation and Kushwinder Singh, Director of Dental Sciences, Mangalore gave the vote of thanks.
