Manipal: “The success of the podcast depends on the content and theme of the podcast which the user chooses and this form of media is quite more appealing to today’s generation,” said Aditya Mhatre the owner of Indicast while giving a seminar on podcasting on the first day of the Manipal Media Students’ Convention.

He spoke about the basics of podcasting starting right from its definition and then moved over to the technologies involved in a podcast. He explained how podcasting companies get revenue, their target audiences and went on to explain the whole of the money making process. He also let the audience know how to start a simple podcast on their own laptops and then start working on it.

“The session was quite informative as he runs a podcast himself and his original experiences right from revenues to statistics made the concept quite clear and he also made it interesting by announcing a workshop on it,” said Nithya Dayal the co-founder of Muziboo.com.

After the presentation, there was a podcasting workshop conducted at Manipal Institute of Communication. All the participants were divided in to four groups. These groups were supposed to make their own podcasts on their own themes. The award winning podcast team consisted of five participants, Jayanth Sekher, Priyam Malhotra, Karthik Kastury, Kenny Jacob, Ashish and Akshaya.

“The speakers were interesting, topics varied, the day was exciting and the convention was an instant draw for me and in all it was an excellent experience and all thanks to the MIC team for their co-operation,” said Kirthana Karumbaiah, working for Infosys who also participated in the convention very enthusiastically.

Earlier the Manipal Media Students’ Convention was inaugurated by Dr M V Kamath who was the chief guest of the event. The inauguration was declared open by Dr Kamath hitting the gong. Dr Buroshiva Dasgupta, Director, Manipal Institute of Communication and Dr Raj P Warrier, Vice-chancellor, Manipal University were also present during the inauguration event.
