Manipal: The road that travels from Legal point to Hotel Big Boss sure is a very busy road with buses, motorists and cars zooming past, especially through the main junction, Tiger Circle all the time. But on their way the amount of noise they cause is extremely loud. Along the road lie a hospital and a few colleges, the students of which have every reason to frown whenever a bus passes by.
"The noise created by the buses and especially the honking is very irritating. During our exams it becomes difficult to concentrate on the paper", said Shefali, a student of WGSHA, a college that is situated right behind a busy bus stop. Besides colleges there is also a hospital just a few meters away. Soumya and Litty, two students of Nursing said, "Tiger Circle is the main junction in Manipal. The honking of these buses sounds awful to the ear. But it is not only at Tiger Circle, sometimes even inside our campus there are bikes that have annoying horns. That’s irritating."
The No Honking Day that was held in Mumbai a few days ago proved to be very effective. So does Manipal also need to observe such a day or at least a strict no honking area? A couple hailing from Shringeri said, "The competition these buses have creates the whole noise. Buses try their best to overtake each other and that is why they keep blowing their horns. At least the road opposite the Hospital and colleges should be made free of horns."
"The responsibility is that of the R.T.O. It is supposed to be a silence zone but the rules need to be made more strict", said a policeman. Particularly taking the hospital and colleges into consideration, the area needs to be more silent than it is now.
