Manipal: A blood donation camp was organised by a group of MS second year students of MIC in association with the Blood Bank, Kasturba Medical College (KMC), which received an overwhelming response.

Though the expected units of blood were approximately 50, the blood donation drive successfully managed to collect around 120 units. Due to the enthusiastic response of the donors, the organisers had to extend the scheduled closing time by an hour.

“It was extremely wonderful to arrange this camp. It proves that humanity still exists and there are people who manage to take out some time for such a noble cause. The response was overwhelming,” said Technical Supervisor, Blood Bank, Prema R Nayak, who hopes that students of MU continue arranging such camps to help hospitals.

“The whole arrangement and facilities provided were very good. If my blood helps save someone’s life, my work stands done,” said Shruti, an MIT student, who assured that from now on she will donate blood every time there is a camp.

“I was proud to be a part of this noble cause and if given a chance I would definitely organise such an event again. Even though it was a part of our academic exercise, it gave immense satisfaction,” said one of the organisers of the blood donation drive,
Aditi Rai, 2nd year MS student of MIC.

An eminent singer for All India Radio (AIR) and the proprietor for Raj Fashions, Manipal, Poornima Bhojraj, was the Chief Guest at the inauguration ceremony. The other guests present were Honorary Director of MIC, MV Kamath, Director of MIC, Buroshiva Dasgupta, Public Relations, MU, Vidya Pratap and President of Lions Club, Manipal Rajesh Bhakta

Syndicate Bank, Manipal was the main sponsor for the camp. The associate sponsors were Lions Club, Udayavani, Manipal and Lakme, Mangalore
