Manipal: The student town is ablaze with a mixed sort of aura- end of semester, end of academic year. The final year students say goodbye and the first year students look forward to becoming seniors. The last minute buzz has already seeped in.
Simultaneously students are studying for the exams and taking out time for partying. End of semester exams, placement in companies and sessionals- all these together are adding up the pressure. Few batches are already on their way home. Some are so busy studying that they don’t even step out of their rooms. Besides all this, for some the cause of worry and concern is finding an accommodation for the next semester.
Amidst all this, the final year batches of MIC received a grand farewell. Both BA Journalism and Mass Communication (BAJC) and MS Communication final year students were pleased with the parties thrown in their honor by their immediate juniors. The parties were held at Purple Ace and Westind Country Club respectively. “It was fun and we were all given nick names which were really personalized,” said Ranjan Atreya, 3rd year student of BAJC.
MIT campus was surprisingly crowded on Sunday morning with the sessionals and placement pressure. The campus placement started off with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) coming on the 2nd May. 322 students got selected and this was followed by a party by those who got placed. The students are now looking forward to the 3rd of June when three mass recruiting companies are coming.
When asked about the Farewell party for the outgoing batch, Sankalp Sinha, 3rd year student of MIT said, “All the 4th year students are yet to return from their projects so the parties are on hold for now and will probably be after the third sessionals.”
The libraries have never been as crowded as now. Xerox shops have not had more business. Professors have not had so many queries and requests for reference. It is not just the end of semester but also end of a year.
The confirmed dates of examination schedule are out so many students are busy frequenting the travel agencies to book tickets. All belongings have to be packed and moved to a new accommodation or else have to be left in the luggage room of the hostels. A little encumbering, but yet essential, as the rooms have to be cleaned and prepared for the next academic year.
The Chief Warden’s office is one of the most frequented places along with the Finance section. All dues are to be cleared and all last minute arrangements have to be made. A little bit of last minute shopping and final look around Manipal. Hurried calls to confirm summer internships are also visible.
Some tearful Goodbyes are being said. Long stay at home is what excites some others. Manipal is ready to hibernate. It is May and otherwise busy Manipal will finally rest for two months.
