Manipal: The Department of Information and Communication Technology (I&CT) of the Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) hosted Ping 2008, a two-day national level workshop on advances in wireless communication technologies. This year was the third edition of Ping.
Day one of the workshop featured a talk on ‘Software defined radio and applications’ by Dr Venkata Subramaniam Viraraghavan from Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Bangalore. This was followed by a seminar on ‘Cognitive radio’ by Dr M Girish Chandra from TCS, Bangalore. Day two included talks on ‘Cross layer optimisation for Quality of Service (QoS) guarantee multimedia application on wireless networks’ and ‘Issues in Vehicular Ad-hoc Network (VANET) communication due to mobility’ by Dr Jaydip Sen from TCS, Kolkata and Dr Manohar M Pai from MIT, Manipal respectively.
“The hands-on experience in the labs working on Network Simulation-2 (NS2) and QualNet was the best part of the workshop. I am participating for the first time this year and it has been good overall,” said Shiv Ram Krishna, IT, MIT. The workshop drew 40 participants from Manipal and around. All the participants were awarded certificates of participation at the valedictory function.
The inauguration saw Dr Rajsekharan P Warrier , Vice Chancellor, Manipal University stress on the need for cutting edge communication technology to better services in the bio-medical field. Brig (retd.) S S Pabla, Director, MIT and Radhika Pai, HoD, I&CT were among other attendees.
