Manipal: The inter-year swimming competition of MIT took place at the MIT swimming pool last week. The competition was flagged off by Dr SS Pabla, Director of MIT.
This year about 20 participants, both men and women competed for different strokes including 33m freestyle, 66m freestyle, back stroke, 66m breast stroke, 100m breast stroke, 66m butterfly stroke, 33m butter breast stroke, medley relay 33x4 and freestyle relay 33x4. Students of all batches of MIT, except the final years participated in this competition as they had outstation projects to be completed.
“The inter-year swimming competition enables us a platform to show our talents. By participating we really get to know how much improvement is required,” said Ayush Anand, one of the winners of the freestyle relay.
Among all the winners in various categories, Vishawarath Tomar won the Best Male Swimmer Award for the year 2008 and also broke all the previous years’ records in men’s category. The Best Woman Swimmer Award was bagged by Neha Chander. Ishita Bedi a first year student of MIT was a new talent that was discovered among the women’s category this year. “She was exceptionally good and we are glad to have another great swimmer in the women’s section.” said Satish Mallya, Director of Physical Education, MIT. Winners of the competition were presented with certificates and medals.
