Udupi: The Udupi Krishna mutt now bears a brand new renovated look, with freshly painted walls, air conditioners and new lighting inside the temple. The mutt has decided to do all this as a part of the ‘Sundara Udupi’ Project, launched on April 20th.
“We cannot talk about keeping Udupi clean and giving the town a new look, before we ourselves start the change,” said Vishnu Prasad, Secretary to Sugunendra Tirtha. The motive of the ‘Sundara Udupi’ Project being keeping Udupi clean, and giving it a heritage look, the temple now has light, soft lighting. “People come to the temple to get peace of mind; harsh lights hurt the eye. So we have now changed the lighting inside the temple completely, to soft and sober,” he added.
Air conditioners have been installed inside all the office parts of the mutt, and the temple now has a no plastic policy. Plastic bags have been substituted by cotton bags, and the temple yard is cleaned everyday by volunteers.
